A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

People often ask “who is R. C. Stevens?”  There is more than one way to answer that. It all started with Raymond C. Stevens, the founder and the company’s namesake, but has grown to include every team member and the ongoing spirit that can be felt in everything we build and do.

Almost a century ago, Ray Stevens founded the company and continuously led with his core principles of integrity, innovation, and quality, which have guided how R. C. Stevens does business. I appreciate how his vision for being a trustworthy partner for our clients and an active member of our community still guides how we do business.

To know our company is to understand its vision of exceeding our client’s expectations while fostering and supporting our employees, clients, and the community. I believe Ray would be proud to see where the company stands and that his ideals continue to guide us today.

The fact that R. C. Stevens is still in business after 98+ years is a point of pride for me as well as our team members. Historically, we have been a smaller sized company — currently under 50 staff, about 20 in the office — which encourages camaraderie, communication, and collaboration. The ability to be hands-on when needed yet empower the team is a plus for all. It has always been my intention to create a constructive, open work environment.

We rely on each other as a team — or rather as a family, since we spend so much time together — and have an open environment where each of us can grow, thrive, and be challenged. An entrepreneurial spirit is encouraged — which allows for personal growth and independence. It’s an atmosphere where we can have discussions that are passionate about what’s working and what’s not working. We don’t change things for change’s sake, but we change things to keep people challenged and to improve on our processes. We also encourage calling upon the many years of experience each team member brings to the table.

I see R. C. Stevens continue to grow by pushing that culture of teamwork, excellence, integrity, and honesty to another new level. We will continue to innovate and bring purpose and self-satisfaction to our team members where they want their best friends to work with them. I want the word “work” at R. C. Stevens to be associated with satisfaction and fun, while at the same time be challenging and exciting. With that type of culture, a project can be managed and built from the heart, thus holding our promise to the client by exceeding their expectations each and every time.

In April 2022, our vision continues when R. C. Stevens joined  The Cianbro Companies. Founded in 1949, Cianbro is one of America’s largest, open shop, employee-owned construction, and construction service companies. Currently operating in over 40 states, Cianbro employs more than 4,000 multi-skilled team members, who most importantly, share the same values and mission that we do. Not only did this move maintain the culture and spirit of innovation at R. C. Stevens, but it also secured a home where our team members could have more growth opportunities and allow them to participate in the success of the company.

This opportunity will allow us to continue on our current trajectory of building excellence while at the same time giving our team members the opportunity to grow, be challenged, and rewarded for their efforts. I will remain as president and am looking forward to this next chapter of R. C. Stevens history.
